Heidi Erisman, MC In Progress, MBA, BGS

I am completing my Masters of Counselling degree this year and value the opportunity to work with members of my community who seek to effect positive change in their personal and professional lives.  I am committed to the acceptance of diversity that includes race, culture, religion, and sexual orientation, and welcome the incorporation of diverse ideas about healing and well-being that arise from different worldviews to my practice of psychology.  I believe that people are social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, physical and occupational beings, and I am committed to working collaboratively and supportively with you to find your balance and happiness.

My professional background includes ten years as a mental health therapist as well as twenty years as an Executive Director for multiple not-for-profit organizations. I also served as an executive coach and mentor to individuals and teams.  My research focus for my MBA drew upon the work of sociologist, Jack Mezirow and his theory of perspective transformation,  a view that examines how people use critical self-reflection to consider their beliefs and experiences;  and how the process uses one’ disorienting dilemma’, that is, one’s experiences that don’t fit into one’s current beliefs about their world.  My research examined how the process shaped and transformed business leaders.

Today,  I am grounded in a transformational leadership approach that includes working collaboratively with others in their professional and personal lives to identify the need, make a change, create a vision with supporting goals, and to cultivate the inspiration to advance  toward the transformations they seek.  Added to my human resource and business training and experience, I am trained in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy combined with developed skills in cultural counselling competencies. Moreover,  I am keenly interested in Positive Psychology as I work toward developing an integrated practice of psychology.
