Heidi Erisman, MC, MBA, BGS (Psych), Senior Associate

I value the opportunity to work with companies and associations who seek to create a positive and mentally healthy workplace for their employees and themselves. Company and corporate leaders who recognize their employee’s need for autonomy and teamwork, competence, and friendly interpersonal relationships create work cultures that positively correlate with employee job satisfaction, better health, and increased productivity (Gomez-Baya & Lucia-Casademunt, 2018). I am committed to training and coaching employees and employers with evidence-based approaches that support a psychologically healthy workplace.

My professional background includes 25 years as a leader and executive director in the private, not-for-profit and public sector. I also have served as an executive coach and trainer for teams. My research for my MBA drew upon the work of sociologist, Jack Mezirow and his theory of perspective transformation, a view that examined how people use critical self-reflection to consider their beliefs and experience after disorienting events at the workplace. My study explored how the perspective transformation process shaped and transformed business leaders toward improved ethical actions that resulted in enhanced psychological wellness reported by others in the workplace. In addition to my business experience and knowledge, I am a counselling therapist (or, registered provisional psychologist, Jan 2020). I have worked for 12 years in mental health in roles that included serving on a Mobile Mental Health Crises team and providing community training and education regarding mental health issues and suicide awareness, prevention and interventions.

As both a business and mental health professional, I feel concern about the impact of bullying, harassment, and violence in places of work and for all the persons involved. With my training and experience in assessment and interventions in dysfunctional conflict and performance deterioration; and promoting employee wellness and workplace psychological health, I offer workshops and lectures on behalf of INSIGHT Corporate Care. For companies concerned about the new relevant legislation and changes to Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act designed to protect the well being of Albertans, I provide research and evidence-based training that assists employers and employees when they encounter behaviours that undermine psychological health at work.
