Shaheel is a serial entrepreneur and professional early stage tech investor. He has previously served as CEO of two high growth Canadian software startups, Director of Business Development at a U.S. enterprise software company, and former strategy consultant at McKinsey & Co. He has been involved in starting or running more than 15 startup businesses to date, has actively advised hundreds of startup entrepreneurs and has been involved in raising over $100 million in capital. More recently, he started a Sprout Fund, an Alberta venture fund which in early stage, high growth, next-gen tech startups.
His experiences over the past two decades span the first two waves of technological disruption where he was involved in launching one of Canada’s first online banks, as well as, served as an early investor in and board member of a high-growth Software as a Service (SaaS) company that has exceeded a valuation of $60 million within 5 years and received a significant investment this year past year two top-tier venture capital funds. His advisory work has touched over a thousand startups to date.
Shaheel has served as Chairman of the A100 Tech Entrepreneurs, is currently a University of Alberta Venture Services Mentor, and a Harvard University Startup Innovation Lab Advisor. These involvements have given him direct line of sight into how the next wave of technological disruption will effect a variety of industries.
He holds an MBA (Entrepreneurial Finance) from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce (Distinction) from the University of Alberta. In 2016 he was awarded the Entrepreneur Promotion award from the Startup Canada organization.
